Geralda Miller, Executive Director

Coming off 10 years as the arts and culture reporter at the Reno Gazette-Journal, I decided to plunge into arts full-time because I realized that it is what stirs my soul. I am a fifteen-year veteran journalist who has provided a voice to unnoticed and underserved populations. I worked as newswoman for The Associated Press in the Detroit bureau before heading west to work as the Diversity Reporter for the Reno Gazette-Journal.

For several years before writing about the arts, I presented the issues of Reno’s diverse populations, and the history and culture of the area’s communities of color, including Latino, African American, and American Indian.

But journalism wasn’t my first career. I worked as a niche marketing consultant and had a 16-year career as a fashion buyer and product developer, during which time I honed my skills to identify trends, negotiate with suppliers worldwide, manage millions of dollars in apparel inventory and sales, and develop relationships. With clients like the World Bank and USAid, the underserved populations I worked with expanded globally.

I earned a B.A. in Journalism at Southern Methodist University, with a minor in African American studies. Later, I earned a master’s degree in History at the University of Nevada, Reno, with a focus on race and ethnicity.

When I’m not at a gallery reception, concert or play, I’m playing with my dog, Malcolm, or getting my costumes ready for Burning Man.
